Philadelphia’s Main Line is one of the best places in the city to enjoy a night out on the town. It is a particularly special spot to spend Valentine’s Day with your loved one because of the Main Line’s delicious dining, scenic streets and rich history.

So if you’d like to take your Valentine out on the Main Line for a romantic meal, here are some of the top places to celebrate Valentine’s Day in that part of Philly.

Cerdo Mediterranean Kitchen & Bar: For Valentine’s Day, Cerdo is offering a Make Your Own Dough Night where guests can learn the art of making two types of dough—pasta and pizza—while enjoying food, drinks, and overall fun. You won’t want to miss out on your chance to make a heart-shaped ravioli for your loved one at this restaurant in Conshohocken.

General Warren Inne: This historic venue has been serving folks in Philadelphia since 1745 and will create an atmosphere unlike any other for you and your Valetine. Located in Malvern, the General Warren menu features favorites such as snapper turtle soup and sesame-crusted tuna.

Majolica: Located in Phoenixville, Majolica is a great BYOB for Valentine’s Day thanks to award-winning chef Andrew Deery’s four-course, seasonal menu.

Red Star Craft House: If you and your Valentine love movies and trivia, then Red Star Craft House in Exton is for you. For this romantic holiday the restaurant will host ‘80s and ‘90s Romantic Comedy Trivia Night where its guests can show off their knowledge while sipping on some craft brews.

If you find yourself out on the Philly Main Line with your Valentine, don’t let a mistake ruin your night. It can be easy to lock yourself out of your car when you’re focused on the nice romantic evening. So if you find yourself in this situation, give a Main Line locksmith a call and they’ll take care of you.

Car Safety Tips for Thanksgiving and Black Friday

The Main Line of Philadelphia is a great place to spend the holiday season and get your Black Friday shopping done.

Whether you’re enjoying a delicious Thanksgiving dinner at one of the many fine Main Line restaurants or doing some Black Friday shopping on Cricket Avenue in Ardmore during the Cricket Cringle celebration, Philadelphia’s Main Line is the best place to be this holiday season.

But the holiday season is also an important time to be alert and cautious when it comes to your vehicle. There are car thieves out there who have bad intentions and prey on those who are distracted by the hustle and bustle of the holidays.

To help protect you while on the Main Line this holiday season, here are some useful car safety tips to keep in mind.

Lock Shopping Bags in Trunk: If you’ve already done some holiday shopping and have a bunch of bags in your car, be sure to either cover them up or lock them in your trunk before leaving your vehicle unoccupied. Taking frequent trips to the car to drop off bags makes shopping much easier, but be sure to keep your new belongings out of plain site. If you happen to lock your keys in your car during one of these trips, be sure to have the number for a Main Line locksmith handy.

Park Away from Store Entrances: This goes against conventional wisdom, but parking farther away from a store’s entrance actually has many benefits. First, you’ll be more likely to find a parking spot. You also decrease the chances of your car being hit by another car or a stray shopping cart. If you’re shopping at night, parking under a parking lot light is not a terrible idea.

Use Back-Up Cameras and Mirrors While Parking: Parking lots can be an absolute nightmare around the holidays, making it even more crucial to use your back-up camera and mirrors of your vehicle. Using these correctly will help you see children, shopping carts or other hazards that might be behind your vehicle as your parking or backing out.

Use Hands-Free Devices: If you must be on the phone while driving, be sure to use a hands-free device that will allow you to have your conversation while keeping both hands on the wheel. Get your conversation done and stay alert at the same time. And make sure you never text and drive.

Underrated Tips for College Students

8/30/2017

Picture
Saint Joseph’s University and other colleges across Philadelphia are welcoming students back to school for the fall semester.

The first semester is typically an eye-opener for freshmen that don’t know what to expect. But what about those second, third, and even fourth-year students who think they have this college thing all figured out?

Sure, you know what school supplies you’ll probably need and your way around campus, but there are several other steps that even seasoned college students can take to be even more prepared for the school year. Here are a few underrated tips for college students:

Tip #1: Create a semester budget
Very few college students have money to be spending frivolously, but that doesn’t mean they’re always the most fiscally responsible people. Figure out how much you have saved entering a semester, how much you expect to make through a part-time job or other source of income throughout the semester, and how much your average expenses per week/month are. Once you have all the numbers in front of you, create a budget for the semester to ensure that you don’t overspend and aren’t left with no money during finals week. After all, that’s when you’ll probably need to buy the most coffee.

Tip #2: Know a 24-hour locksmith
Having contact information for an emergency locksmith in your phone could be one of the best decisions you’ve ever made. Residential locksmiths are available in Philadelphia to ensure that you’re never locked out of your home. Main Line Locksmiths offers 24-hour locksmith services for Saint Joe’s students and students of other universities along Philadelphia’s Main Line. Main Line Locksmiths not only recommends that students have our number-- (610) 813-2128—in their phone, but they also suggest having spare keys made in case you are locked out of your dorm, house or apartment.

Tip #3: Get enough sleep
This is a tip that is hard to get across to college students who want to stretch as many hours out of their days as they can. But sleep is important for the brain and the body. A lack of sleep can cause students to get sick more easily, especially during flu season. Focus and concentration in class and during school work can also get harder throughout the semester with too little sleep. Go out and have fun on weekends, but try to get as many full nights of sleep during the week as you can, so that you don’t wear yourself too thin.

About the Philadelphia Main Line

Picture
The Philadelphia Main Line, known by many in the area as simply just the Main Line, is an informally delineated historical and social region of suburban Philadelphia. Its name is fitting because it lies alongside the former Pennsylvania Railroad’s Main Line, which runs northwest from downtown Philadelphia, parallel to US Route 30.

The Main Line is home to some incredible country estates belonging to Philadelphia’s wealthiest families. To this day, the Main Line has some of the wealthiest communities in country, including Lower Merion Township, Radnor Township, Gladwyne, and Villanova.

As affluent Western suburbs of Philadelphia, the Main Line communities have been home to many notable individuals. Some of the more famous folks that hail from the Main Line include billionaire, philanthropist and founder of TV Guide, Walter Annenberg; former NBA great Kobe Bryant; Chairman of Comcast Spectacor, Ed Snider; singer and musician Patti Labelle; as well as billionaire and controlling owner of MacAndrews & Forbes and Revlon, Ronald Perelman.

If you’re driving through the many communities of the Philadelphia Main Line or even happen to live in one, be sure to be prepared so that nothing stops you from seeing all that the region has to offer.

3 Locks That You Just Can ’t Pick

Picture
At Mainline Locksmith, we love a good challenge. Whether it’s needing to fix a lock under a time restraint or being faced with a complex lock, we just can’t turn it down! So when we heard of locks that just can’t be picked, we didn’t believe it. But upon further review, these 3 locks are just that good, that secure, and that well designed that no Havertown locksmith or locksmith in the entire city can pick.

Shi-He Chi-Me U-Lock
One of the stranger locks in existence, the Shi-He Chi-Me-U Lock has such a confusing shape, it loos menacing from first glance at the mechanism. The best of this lock, the part that makes it unable to be picked, is the obstructed keyway and the variation of the key itself. This lock comes with a combination of sharp turns and unseen holes that would confuse even the most experienced picker. Additionally, this lock is one of the rarest on the market, mostly used in China.

EVVA MCS
In the field of magnetic locks and keys, the EVVA MCS is one of the best of the best. It’s similar to some that are on the market, but 10x better. In addition to the difficult and complex cuts in conjunction with the roundness of the key, the magnetic pattern adds an extra layer of security. This lock can only be picked if the picker has your original key to duplicate, otherwise, it cannot be picked or decoded.

HYT Chain Key
When you first see the key for this lock, it’s fair to say you may have no idea what you are actually looking at. This heavy chunk of metal looks more like armor for your key chain than an actual key. Its unique key design makes it extremely difficult for pickers to place their lock picking tools down the slot. The chain key curves in a way that makes it practically unknown to the outside world what the lock truly looks like. Though the key is delicate and fun to look at, it makes it virtually impossible to pick, granting it a nice spot on our list.
These locks are great security measures for your home or office. Contact your local Havertown locksmith for more information on how you can get your hands on one of these locks.

What It Takes To Become a Professional Locksmith in Havertown, PA

6/2/2017

Becoming a locksmith can be a rewarding career. Not only do you get to help people when they need it most, but you also get to meet all different types of people, from all walks of life. Being a locksmith allows you to work with your hands day in and day out while also seeing parts of the city you probably never even knew existed. Yes, being a locksmith has its benefits, but to be a Havertown locksmith, or locksmith anywhere, you need to have these 3 characteristics.

One fundamental that is necessary for locksmiths to have is a hands-on mentality. You don’t necessarily need actual mechanical experience, but you do need to be able to think realistically and practically. Most people who are mechanical and practical like to be the most involved with their work. This is an exceptional skill for a locksmith to have as they are constantly using their hands and 100% involved int their work from beginning to end.

Another skill that is great for locksmiths to have is the ability to solve puzzles. When you think about the mechanics of lock, that’s all it truly is, a tiny puzzle. In the eyes of a locksmith, every locked lock, every jammed lock, every lock that needs repair is a type of challenging puzzle for the locksmith to solve. The harder the challenge, the more it’s enjoyed. This is one of the best traits to have in the industry, because not only will you be great at your job, but you will genuinely enjoy it.

Finally, one of the most important skills that is important for locksmiths to have is the gift of patience. The same way locks don’t just jam on their own, they also don’t become unstuck on their own. Being a locksmith is a lot of trial and error. Whether you are just starting out or a veteran in the industry, you are still learning what solution works best for which problem. Rushing through a job can potentially cause more damage to the lock. Patience is truly a virtue for locksmiths.

While this is by no means a comprehensive list of traits that locksmiths should have, these three are a great start. If you think you possess these three skills and have an interest in becoming a Havertown locksmith, feel free to contact us!

Common Misconceptions about Locksmiths in PA

5/15/2017

Oftentimes, locksmiths in PA and other highly populated areas of the United States get a bad reputation. Here, we will take a look at some of the most common misconceptions about locksmiths.

They are the Same
Many believe all locksmiths are the same and individuals feel as if locksmiths can’t be trusted due to being burned in the past. However, this could be the farthest thing from the truth. When hiring a locksmith in PA, make sure to read reviews online or asked a trusted friend or relative for a recommendation. Anyone can claim they are a locksmith, but you want to ensure you are using a reputable one for any emergencies.

Locksmiths are Expensive
While being locked out of your home or vehicle is an inconvenience to you, calling a locksmith doesn’t have to be an inconvenience to your wallet. There are many locksmiths in PA and the surrounding area who provide quality service for an inexpensive cost. Pricing could rise based off of the popularity of the locksmith service, how damaged a lock is and overall quality of the job.

Locksmiths show up late to every Job
No one likes being stood up, especially from a delivery company or locksmith. If you are in an emergency situation and call for a locksmith, they will arrive when they say they will as they know a bad review could hurt them. Also, many locksmiths provide twenty four hour services, allowing them to help anyone, anytime of the day, without much wait time.

A locksmith’s job is Easy
Individuals may believe they can easily do a locksmith’s job. However, locksmiths have specialized tools which may not be readily available to home and car owners. Additionally, home and car owners may not have the necessary skill to repair the lock or retrieve locked keys. Since locksmiths in PA are trained, they can easily do the job, whereas the home or car owner may take longer.
